I have a daughter just going off to University in Montreal. Here are a few of the things I think she needs to know about computers: Keep your laptop locked up. When you are in your room at residence, always keep it locked to the desk with your security cable. Notebooks are too easy to snatch just to leave it unsecured for even a minute. Keep your virus scanner and Windows updates completely up to date. Any data on your computer that you don’t want to lose, keep it backed up. Store it on CDR’s and preferably also on your USB memory stick. Put your application disks away along with the codes required to reinstall these programs. Do not lend then out to anyone. Take along a can of compressed air and clean your fans once every three months. Take care of your computer and it will take care of you.
