Windows XP allows users to protect their accounts with passwords. This is a good thing until you loose or forget what the password is; then you are locked out. If you are running Windows XP Home Edition you might have a back door into your system so you can unlock your account. Windows XP Home has an Administrator account that is hidden when running in Normal Mode but that can be accessed in Safe Mode. To boot your system up into safe mode you have to press the F8 function key before you get to the Windows Splash screen and you will be taken to a DOS type menu. Safe Mode is one of the options. Safe Mode is diagnostic mode so your computer will not run at full speed and the screen resolution will change. Don’t worry about this. When you get to the login screen you will see the Administrator account. If you are lucky there will be no password on the Administrator account and you can log in, Once you get into the system all you have to do is go to the Control Panel>Users. Open the locked account and click on the Remove Password option. Now reboot and you will be able to access your formerly locked account!
