They say that as the seasons change from winter to summer it is a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors, I think that these “milestones” are also excellent times to do some maintenance and backups for your computers. Lets face it. Most people at home do not backup their data. At least a lot of sad faced people that I see in our shop don’t. Heck, I don’t a lot of the time on my home machine and I know better, but then again I understand the consequences and am able to at least get my system back up and running without much trouble. For many people, all of their family memories are now digital pictures on their computers. Data like this needs to be backed up. Anything you would miss needs to be backed up! As for maintenance, keeping the fans and heatsinks free of dust, debris and pet hair is vitally important, even more so today with machines running faster and hotter.
