The back-to-school rush is upon us. There will be many students taking notebook computers away to school this year. Notebooks are easy to steal and hard to trace. You might consider sending a notebook security cable along with your student and their notebook. A security cable acts much like a bike lock. You secure it to a hard to move object like a table leg and the other end locks itself into a small opening found on virtually all notebooks.
Thus secured, the notebook is much less susceptible to a snatch and grab at the library or the dorm room. Other popular accessories for notebooks are carry bags, mice, speaker systems, tv-tuners, printers and USB memory sticks.
Note: If you are going to teach your student one thing about their computer before they head off into th big world, teach them how to back-up their important data on to CD-R's or DVD's. Most people learn about backing up the hard way but it is possible to learn to backup data before you encounter disaster.
